  • Lead author Dr. David Allen serves as chair of the Environmental Protection Agency's Science Advisory Board, and in this role is a paid Special Governmental Employee. He is also a journal editor for the American Chemical Society and has served as a consultant for multiple companies, including Eastern Research Group, ExxonMobil, and Research Triangle Institute. He has worked on other research projects funded by a variety of governmental, nonprofit and private sector sources including the National Science Foundation, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, the American Petroleum Institute and an air monitoring and surveillance project that was ordered by the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas.
  • Dr. Daniel Zavala-Araiza, who was a graduate student and a member of the UT Austin Study Team collecting and analyzing data on this research study, has been employed by the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)since he graduated from UT Austin in August 2014. EDF is a funding partner for this study.
  • Dr. Adam Pacsi, who was also a graduate student and member of the UT Austin Study Team collecting and analyzing data on this research study, has continued his involvement on the project as a post-doctoral scholar under Dr. Allen since he graduated in August 2104. He has accepted a position at Chevron beginning in 2015. Chevron is a funding partner for this study.
  • Scientific Advisory Panel member Dr. A. Dan Hill owns ExxonMobil, BP, and ConocoPhillips stock, serves on the Advisory Board for Sanchez Oil and Gas, for which he is compensated, and has been a consultant for Schlumberger and numerous oil and gas operating companies.
  • Scientific Advisory Panel member Dr. Brian Lamb of Washington State University was a member of the Scientific Advisory Panel for the previous 2013 study on Methane Emissions. Dr. Lamb served on the Scientific Advisory Panel only for the work described in the Methane Emissions from Process Equipment at Natural Gas Production Sites in the United States: Liquid Unloadings article. He elected not to participate in the pneumatics portion of the current study or to be listed as an author in order to ensure there were no potential conflicts of interest.
  • Scientific Advisory Panel member Dr. Robert Sawyer is a partner with the Sawyer Group, which "provides engineering and educational consulting services to more than 100 companies, government organizations and non-profits."
  • Scientific Advisory Panel member Dr. John Seinfeld served as a consultant for Shell in 2012.
